Research

The New York Memory and Healthy Aging Services officeThe New York Memory Foundation, a 501C3 not-for profit organization, has been in existence since 2008. It was formed with the primary focus of evaluating and treating a wide variety of memory disorders, including those related to:

Head injury
Menopause
Alzheimer's disease

The Foundation is the research arm of the New York Memory and Healthy Aging Services, where hundreds of patients with memory disorders have received care since 1999.

Dr. Gayatri Devi, who leads both the Foundation and the Memory Service, believes strongly in supporting both the caregiver and the patient through the illness, allowing all concerned to function at their best level.

In the last 18 years, Dr. Devi has focused her research on the following areas and published on the same.

rTMS in the the treatment of Alzheimer's disease (ONGOING RESEARCH)

Our most recent clinical study investigated the efficacy of repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) on naming and verbal fluency in patients with Alzheimer's Disease (AD). The results showed statistically significant improvement in oral expression and suggest that rTMS might serve as an effective adjunctive treatment for aphasia with AD patients. We are currently in process of planning a new study which would expand on this finding and explore further potentials of rTMS as a treatment option.

Estrogen and Memory

Menopausal cognitive symptoms include memory problems, trouble finding words, inability to pay attention and trouble with multitasking. These symptoms, present in up to 60% of women going through menopause are often overlooked or left untreated but should be addressed.
